DJ Karyen is an Ottawa-based, multi-genre DJ known for high-energy sets, clean transitions, and an instinct for reading the room. Inspired by trailblazing female DJs and the city’s eclectic music scene, she began in Hip Hop and evolved into a sound that moves confidently across today’s most in-demand club and festival styles.

 

She spent two years on Ottawa’s HOT 89.9 FM as a DJ on the 5 O’Clock Traffic Jam, building a reputation for vibe-forward programming and seamless mixing. Her work has earned three Stylus DJ Award nominations, a 2023 Recognize Awards DJ of the Year nomination, and the 2024 Recognize Award for DJ of the Year.

 

DJ Karyen has performed at major festivals and cultural events including Ottawa Bluesfest, Trinidad Carnival, Toronto Caribbean Carnival, Carivibe, Cranium Music Festival, and House of Paint, and has delivered brand moments for Nike and TD Bank. She’s also been featured in Metro News and recognized through the 83 ’Til Infinity: 40 Years of Hip-Hop in the Ottawa-Gatineau Region exhibit at the Ottawa Art Gallery.

 

A JUNO/CARAS Academy Delegate, she’s currently building RekHeard Breakerz, a Caribbean music discovery podcast and platform designed to elevate emerging artists and connect them with working DJs.
